OK, this question is driving me nuts!
The solo that is roughly 4:14 into Never Enough from Octavarium....Is that Petrucci on guitar, or is it Rudess on either "keytar" or continuum????

It sounds like it's both of them playing in unison.

OK, so what is at stake here is to convince a skeptical friend that Petrucci really is as good a guitarist as I think he is. This skeptic thinks that the solo is keytar or keyboards by Rudess.

Thank you drewstunes, you make a good point it may be them both, although here is what I think:

Pre 4:14 - Petrucci alone
4:14 to 4:30 - Petrucci still alone, but with a different tone effect
Post 4:30 - Perhaps as drewstunes posits, this is both Rudess and Petrucci playing in near unison

Point is, I still want to believe that all of this sequence is Petrucci, and that he is a true wizard of guitar (not that he would not STILL be regardless of the answer!)
