Well, I made it! What an amazing week. The 8th and final chapter in Wild Stringdom introduces the learner to the concept of playing non-guitar music. In other words, playing music originally written for other instruments. John transcribes music such as Chopin's Etude No. 2, violin warm-up exercises he learned from a violinist while he was touring in Europe, and lots of other great exercises for improving your lead guitar playing.

I'm rapidly coming to and end of my week-long quest. I've feel as though I have learned more over this past week than I had over the past year! Setting goals is so important for anything we wish to accomplish in life. Some times one really needs a great teacher to inspire them, and that's what I found in John Pettruci through his Wild Stringdom book. June 27, 2007 Chapter 6 - The big payoff!

OK, so I've gone through all kinds of exercises. Slides. String skipping, chromatic scales, various other scales and permutations thereof. And now...the payoff! Chapter Six puts all the skills that have been covered so far to the test with a large exeprt from the solo in "The Mirror" and culminates with a complete transcription to the solo from "Lie"!

Already I'm a better player. Yesterday was amazing. I have renewed enthusiasm for practicing and playing. What I really like about this chatper is that John points out several instances where one shoudl take care not to injure him/herself while practicing and he suggests stretching exercises, etc. That is critically important and shows he really cares about his students. This book is exactly what the doctor ordered. Following is a quick summary of my observations.

I just cracked open John Petrruci's Wild Stringdom instructional book, popped in the CD that comes with it, and read chapter 1. John talks about the importance of establishing a solid practice routine. He gives good practical advice that I will try to follow as I embark on this mission to complete the tab book cover-to-cover, note for note.
