Wild Stringdom Quest-Day 6Posted by JStephens in Untagged |
|
I'm rapidly coming to and end of my week-long quest. I've feel as though I have learned more over this past week than I had over the past year! Setting goals is so important for anything we wish to accomplish in life. Some times one really needs a great teacher to inspire them, and that's what I found in John Pettruci through his Wild Stringdom book. I think the next blog I'll startup will be a walk through his DVD, Rock Discipline. It's on order, so I'll start up that blog once it arrives.
Chapater 7 Review
We leave the world of leads and focus on more musical theory and expanding chord knowledge. John starts with some interesting traids (chords that only use three notes) and then he shows a lead that would sound great over this chord progression. I use my Line 6 effects pedal running through my laptop to record my playing, so I was able to lay down the chord progression and the lead in a very basic fashion. It sounds great (for my playing, anyway) and this was a fun exercise.
Petrucci then goes on to teach the entire outro to Innocence Faded. This is another very challenging piece that is made easier after having completed all other exercises in this book.
John then goes on to discuss some of his favorite "suspended chords" and how/why/when he uses them.
After reviewing a series of additional exercises, John covers a section out of A Change of Seasons. What fun!
